Our first day in DC

The trip to DC was a great success – even if I had to remind myself (and everyone around me) that I was “just going with the flow.” It’s hard for us borderline obsessive-compulsives to not have a trip planned out to the nth degree. Harder still to do this with a diabetic child who I have to keep from consuming gluten. In a city that I haven’t toured in more than 30 years. (I’m not counting the trip with my sister this summer as that was totally spent within the hotel for the entire convention!)

Luckily, my brudder had a great suggestion for a hotel near the Capitol Building — the Phoenix Park Hotel had a fantastic “Summer Sizzling Special” that turned this rather chi-chi $900/night stunner into a $99/night bargain.

A DC bento

After staying up until 1AM to wait for the new loaf of GF bread to come out of the breadmaker, I finally collapsed into bed last night.

Unfortunately, The Boy was astoundingly early to rise — at 7AM. (I don’t think he’s seen that time of morning since school ended.)

So, I got up too and started doing the last of the packing and prepping for our trip.

One thing on the list was to pack a bento for today’s post-drive lunch. (The BIL and family are slow to get going in the morning, so I figure we won’t see them until after lunch.)

A capital lunch!

It’s two layers of PB&J sandwiches on GF bread, tomatoes and carrots, GF pretzels (in cling wrap), cheese, chocolates, and grapes. I packed it in my picnic lunch container, which was part of my very last order from Ichiban Kan and it made me a little verklempt to use it!) I packed a separate PB&J bento for The Hubster and his glutenous maximus bread.

Okay… off we go!

Off for a weekend trip to DC

We were originally going to head to Sturbridge Village tonight with The Hubster’s brother’s family, but the weather has once again decided to mess with our plans. (Thanks, TS Danny!)

Instead, we’ve decided to head a different direction early tomorrow morning and join up in Washington, D.C.

Thanks to my brudder, we’ve got a great centrally-located hotel lined up and will spend the rainy weekend haunting the fabulous museums there.

I’ll come back with pictures!

Battling the devil

and, by devil, I mean those bastages that need to be strung up by their testicles.

Those jerks who make malware that infect our computers when we’re innocently searching through blogs.

Aaaaargh! It totally creamed my system yesterday and my laptop was off limits — I couldn’t write, I couldn’t surf, I couldn’t do anything.

I was forced to clean my house.

The horror!

The Hubster came home and worked his magic and things seem to be cleaned up now. I hope to be able to post more later.
