Coming up from the deep, cold sea…

The person who took this video lived through horrific peril and imminent death to capture it.

Sssspooooooooky bento!

I couldn’t go as “all out” on a Halloween themed bento as I’d've liked — not cool in the middle school world — but I did attempt a little bit:

Errrrghhh!

I got the idea for the thumb-shaped hotdogs from looking at other bentos on the web, and they took all of a minute to put together. Then I realized that I’d totally forgotten about all those Halloween Jell-O jiggler molds I’d bought — so my skulls idea was shot.

I grabbed a GF cupcake that I’d made yesterday (from a great cookbook that I think I’ll be highly recommending after another recipe or two) and squeezed on some icing from my massive stores of it in the pantry.

Not too bad — and not too goofy. The Boy approved.

Workin’ for the man

Every once in a while, I get roped into doing various projects to help The Hubster in his work life. A few projects have been super fun, a few projects have been super sucky, and a few projects have just been “meh.” This past weekend, was one of the “meh” ones — but I at least got to spend the day with my guys and The Hubster was thankful for my assistance. (And it’s always good to have one’s husband in one’s debt — especially as one’s birthday and Christmas are approaching.)

See, this is his busy trade show/conference season for his industry and he’s been flitting about the country showcasing his new sub ride for zoos, science centers, aquaria, and family entertainment centers. Which means he needs to have coolio displays to present the game software for the ride — which, in this case, meant he needed a drape to block out ambient light from a new rear-projection display he’d bought.

Which meant I’d need to schlepp my sewing machine to the NASTAR Center.

NASTAR Center

If there’s anything I do not love, it’s schlepping my heavy sewing machine places.

A little slice of heaven

When one is deprived of something, one wants it more, right?

For me, it’s been pastry. And “gluten free” and “pastry” don’t fit well in the same sentence. Without gluten, you can’t get those long stretchy bits that give pastry its sproingy-ness, its soft bite.

So, when The Hubster went searching for local gluten free options on his iPhone, I was very excited to see that Yelp had a listing for the Virago Baking Company. It wasn’t TOO ridiculously far away from where I work, so I thought I’d stop by.

And, I have to admit, the memory of the taste/feel of a Danish was prompting me to go there as soon as humanly possible.

Which is why I found myself standing in their establishment yesterday morning, the smell of chocolate and chilled baked goods making my mouth water.

Think of the delights this box could contain!

Just the sight of bakery boxes — knowing they could contain items that wouldn’t make us sick — sent little thrills up and down my spine.
