5 Years of Friendship

Today marks an auspicious day in my life — it’s the day I first met Kdubs back in 2005. I was at Walt Disney World with extended family and, through the PassPorter discussion boards, I discovered that one of my favorite trip report writers was going to be there the same time. A few messages zinged between us and cell phone numbers were exchanged. By chance, I came back to our room — while everyone else stayed in the resort’s pool — to find my phone ringing. It was Kdubs.

I’m also pretty sure it was Fate. Because, from that first meeting, our lives have become inextricably intertwined.

In fact, we’ve always joked that our late mothers had a hand in our meeting. They knew the type of soul we both needed at that point in our lives, and they arranged everything so our trips aligned.

Bless them…

A prelude to summer

There’s a tradition that started in our family almost 20 years ago. Back when The Hubster and I were students at the University of Illinois, we discovered the wonder that is Jarlings Custard Cup. While waiting at the counter for some yummy, fresh-made frozen custard, we saw a woman order two kiddie cups, “NO SPOONS.”

No spoons? How was she gonna eat it? We got our answer the moment we walked past her car — out the back window of her late-model station wagon were two German Shepherds, happily devouring the icy goodness. After checking with our vet to make sure it was okay as an occasional treat for dogs, we’ve taken all our dogs for soft-serve over the years.

Kenzie and Treelo are no exception!

How we spent Earth Day

During my recent (technically-induced) hiatus from the laptop/Photoshop/blog, we managed to squeeze in a very important day.

Yes, it was Treelo’s 11th birthday.
Yes, it was Earth Day.
Yes, yes, YES it was mulch day.

The last part was my favorite.

I started the night before by clearing out the only flower bed I hadn’t cleaned out last Fall with Manny’s help.

This is our ‘Happy Returns’ daylilly bed that we installed a few years ago. It’s still immature, but it gets lovely yellow flowers that bloom and bloom for most of the summer. (I was careful not to get an angle that shows the slap-dash steps we put in 18 months ago. We need to rebuild them –with cement!– this year.)

I’m ba-aaaaack!

Whoo hoooo! It’s done. The Great Rebuilding of The Laptop is done. All hail The Hubster!

Yippy skippy, I’m able to post from a functioning laptop again! And not only “functioning,” but better than ever. The Tech Guru was able to enhance my machine with a working CD-drive. *Phew* I’d survived a loooong time without one, and Kdubs was really giving me a hard time about that! ;)

Anyway, here’s a quick pic I snapped yesterday of our new finch feeders:

One goldfinch on each feeder.

Now, to go through the scads of images I took over the past week or so and get to a-writing!
