From the plains to the peaks

Today was a long, long slog through Kansas, then into Colorado to pass Denver and Boulder before crossing through Rocky Mountain National Park.

My fear of heights only got the better of me twice, but my weeping didn’t seem to distract The Hubster as he wound our little car to twelve thousand feet and back down again.

At the valley on the other side, we saw lots and lots of elk – including a big, young male, his antlers wonderfully fuzzy and tempting. The Hubster marveled that, unlike humans, it’s the *male* elk who hears “nice rack!!” To which The Boy spoke on the elk’s behalf, “Hey, buddy… eyes down here.”

We’re now headed up towards Wyoming as we look for a place to rest our heads for the evening. my guys are thrilled at the idea of sleeping in a town nestled in the Rockies.
