A tale of two doggies

I’m always amazed at how two creatures of the same species can be so different.

A crowd of people delights me — the incredible array of hair colors, body shapes, facial features, etc. And, if I get a chance to know these people, the variety in their personalities is equally astounding.

With my dogs, their personalities are so different, it’s freaky-deaky, but fascinates me totally.

Kenzie is laid back, but very aware that she’s a pretty girl.
Treelo could care less about anything except what has the potential to fly through the air.

Yesterday, while I was working on a new project for The Boy’s room (that I’ll be sharing soon), I sat out in the warm sunshine with the dogs, waiting for some paint to dry. Their interactions with me were like night and day.

Kenzie Treelo

The moment we came outside through the garage, Treelo instantly went to the bucket where we store his toys for the front yard. He carefully extracted his red Frisbee and took off, ready to entice me to play — and, when I took the time to sit on the grass, he trotted up and sat down next to me, his thought process completely transparent to me.

Strategy for play - Step 1

“D’ya think she’ll throw this?”

Strategy for play - Step 2

“Hey! She moved. I think she’ll play!!”

Strategy for play - Step 3

“She can still reach it if I drop it here… she just has to get up a little…”

Strategy for play - Step 4

“Yay! She’s got it!”

Strategy for play - Step 5

“Oh no…. she’s gonna mess with me. Just throw it — THROOOOOOOOW IIIIIIIIIIT!!”

Strategy for play - Step 6

“Phew. She threw it. I better see if she’ll do it again.”

Kenzie, on the other hand, wants to be as close to me as possible. Preferably where I can either admire her beauty or pet her. Her thoughts are equally transparent, but I think that may have to do with the fact that one can look into her eyes and see the back of her skull.

Strategy for love - Step 1

“D’ya think Mama can see me from this angle?”

Strategy for love - Step 2

“Dern it. She’s paying attention to the other dog. This calls for desperate measures.”

Strategy for love - Step 3

“If I just rock back a little…. a little more….”

Strategy for love - Step 4

“There! She’ll never be able to resist the temptation for a belly rub!”

I do love them, but I can’t get a blessed thing done when they are seeking attention.

*sigh*

Aaahh . . . I miss those two! Let me know if you need a yellow lab mutt. MD accidentally let him out one night last week with Thom out of town – - I chased him for 15 minutes in my pj’s until the neighbor kids helped me trap in him their back yard. Came home to find the girls raiding the candy drawer.
