Wonderland
When I went to bed last night, there was a dusting of snow on the ground, with more expected by this morning. Sure enough, my phone rang at 6AM with an automated call telling us school would be delayed 2 hours. The Boy stuck his head in our room and, upon hearing the news, turned immediately around for his own bedroom, and was snoring away within 15 seconds.
I, however, had a hungry black dog breathing hot stank into my face, so I pulled myself out of bed and headed downstairs, just as the wintry sun was rising.

Ooooh, we’d gotten more snow than I expected and it looked so lovely on my rose trellis. I risked the wrath of Kenzie’s hungry belly, and grabbed my camera before starting the dogs’ breakfasts.
I loved how the snow was sticking to the trees and shrubs, delineating each branch and setting up wonderful visual contrasts.

When The Hubster came down, he set up a little stake-out at the kitchen window in the hopes of catching sight of the pretty female cardinal that was looking for a meal of birdseed beneath our feeders. Unfortunately, the only winged denizen of our back yard was this little fella:

Treelo had a good sniff around the property, before eventually coming to the back door to entice one of us to come out and play.

Kenzie, on the other hand, just took up her usual position…

…before flopping down in the snow. (This is why I’m convinced she’s part Swiss Mountain Dog — she is totally unaffected by the weather and will lay in a foot of snow and ice for an hour without seeming to notice.)

Eventually, however, they demanded to be let in for their breakfasts.

Hours later, there’s still some snow on the ground, but the magic of long branches, hanging heavy with snow, is just a memory (and a whole bunch of files on my hard drive.

Jealous! Oh well, guess I’ll just have to make myself feel better by spending my lunch hour in the sun in our 65 degree weather in Northern California (after I bundle up in my jacket and scarf that is.) But, I do wish I could experience the snow for a little while!
I’m jealous, too!!!!
We have sun today after days of rain…. but no snow.
Well… you ladies should come before Friday — apparently, we have a big nor’easter coming.
Seems that groundhog was right. Beautiful…and agreed, the red bird would have been AWESOME.
Oh so beautiful!
Great photos! Living in New England, I get a little numb to the beauty of winter by February, but the photos made me take a second look and begin to appreciate the view. Thanks, Eileen!
