Normalizing…

Each and every day brings us a more trusting little pupster.

On Sunday, Rosie bounded over to our neighbor’s patio and greeted them while they had their morning coffee — I thought Charlotte was going to burst into tears of joy at the sight of such a fearless and loving puppy! Rosie then enjoyed almost an hour of full-on dog wrassling with the ginormous Max-a-million Smell (who weighs in at 115 pounds at this point!)

Play bows and tail wags are the order of the day for her now.

And that makes my heart sing!

I’m convinced — she’s a Flat-coated Retriever!

I got curious last night, so I let Google settle my question for me.

Rosie is a Flat-Coated Retriever… no doubt about it now!

Just look at these pictures and compare them to Rosie:

And she looks just like my “FCR” Nyxie from a decade or two ago – same ears, same body proportions, same almond-shaped eyes, same long face.

Training her early

Our little gal is a very contented pup these days. She’s happy to play with us, and happy to be eating so much, and happy to sleep more soundly than I think she’s ever slept.

Rosie’s also very interested in Kenzie and keeps trying to cozy up to her… with somewhat mixed results. Kenzie will occasionally allow the Interloper to sit nearby, even with minimal touching at times. But if Rosie tries to sniff her or do anything that resembles normal dog play, Kenzie gives her a warning growl, and Rosie scampers over to me for comfort. *sigh*

Luckily, she’s learning that balls are even more fun to play with than great, big, black, fluffy dogs.

Houston, we are a go!

Yesterday was Rosie’s first vet appointment and she came through it like a rockstar!

She was not overly nervous about the new experiences, and she didn’t seem traumatized by a place that smelled like animals and chemicals — which had worried me. I feared it would bring back too many bad memories for her.

As long as The Boy kept a hand on her side, she was aces.
