It must’ve skipped two generations…

Somehow, The Boy has grown into a fisherman.

I don’t understand it, and I don’t know why, but this kid is totally into fishing — just like his great-grandfather and his great-uncle. He has read books on fishing… BOOKS! He has gotten up at 6AM this summer to head to the reservoir to fish. He has finally taken on The Summer of the Bike because it’s the only way he’s getting to the reservoir at 6AM, as I sure ain’t drivin’ him!

Last night, I took a break from writing to join The Boy in front of the TV. Guess what we watched?

Um…. I don’t think I really needed to know that there are fish called arapaima living in the Amazon. I also did not need to know that they can reach such amazing sizes (the one the Fish Warrior caught measured 307 cm and weighed 154 kg!)

I just know we’re having chicken for dinner…

Road Trip – Part one

The first part of our family road trip consisted of hightailing it across Pennsylvania so we could visit our Ohio friends (who are also The Boy’s godparents, and our BFFs from grad school.) We’d hoped to leave as soon as The Hubster got home from work, but, because I was running behind schedule, we were not out as early as I would’ve liked.

In fact, it was pretty darned late… but that allowed us to watch the sun setting over the road as we headed West.

Which seemed rather appropriate, somehow.

Homa, homa, homa!

We are H.O.M.E.

And never more thankful to be so. The trip was incredible, super-duper exciting, monumental, jaw-dropping, and laugh-out-loud funny! But it was looooooooong and tiring too. Plus, we missed Kenzie more than I thought possible.

The memories (and the pictures) will stay with us forever…

Best of all, we still like each other!

An odd Father’s Day

None of us really felt “celebratory” yesterday, and we’d put off the major house cleaning we needed to do in anticipation of our upcoming trip… which meant that, unfortunately, Father’s Day turned into a cleaning day.

And the poor Hubster worked like a fiend — taking down the ceiling fan blades in the kitchen so I could wash them (they were SO grimey!), marshalling The Boy to scrub walls, dust, and straighten his room, and then grabbing the vacuum himself and doing a bang-up job of cleaning up all the dust and dog hair. He even re-hung the pictures in our newly-painted master bedroom!

I scrubbed, washed windows, cleaned bathrooms, mopped floors, did laundry, and re-organized drawers and cabinets.

And then it was time to relax!
